Choosing a feminist therapist
Feminist therapists believe in the equal value and worth of all people and are attuned to the power differences embedded in societal, cultural and political expectations as these arise in all relationships. We respect and support your right to conform or to be non-conforming, and to choose traditional and non-traditional identities, roles and families.
Fears and negative attitudes expressed by others can harm the recipient’s self-esteem, limit opportunities, result in feeling powerless and cause suffering through psychological symptoms. Feminist therapists acknowledge diversity, respecting differences based on sexual orientation, gender, identity, religion, ethnicity, cultural heritage, race, class, physical ability, body size, and economic circumstances.
We encourage you to find your own voice, to make choices that feel empowering and healing. These values inform our work with individuals, couples, families and group therapy.
Feminist therapists recognize that a person can be exploited and abused at any age or stage of life when power and control are misused. Abuse and exploitation in any form are unacceptable. For this reason, we are also engaged in social activism to affect policies and structures outside of our therapy offices in order to empower and improve the quality of life for all people.
